THE SCHOOL
 When we decided to open up our own online site we realised from the very beginning that we either had to give our clients something completely original and useful, or we would be better not to embark on this venture at all. We are going to explain what this consists of in the next few lines. The idea is very simple. All we want is that our clients win, so that they stay with us and play many hands every month. We are not a charity, an OGN, we hope that you play well and that you win, because if you do so, we will win as well. Our success depends on yours. You might well think that not everyone can win, somebody has to lose. That is why we do not have our own software, we form part of a network that is exactly the same one that many other poker sites use. This means that when you are playing a game, no more than one or two of the other players will be member of the Los Pelayos poker team. The losers will be the players from the other network sites. However, in this respect our idea is completely original. If the style of your game is better adapted to other sites, we will tell you so and suggest that you play with them while still being members of our school, so that we can still carry on correcting your poker hands if you so wish. But …. What is a school of poker? It would seem to be the case that nobody really knows. On most Internet sites, the poker schools merely explain just the basic rules. Such sites are not schools, they are merely bluffs. The only aim of these so-called schools is to recruit inexperienced players and fill their poker rooms with them. The aim of our school is to attract players who already “know the elementary ropes” and no what the game is all about. If this situation does not yet apply to you, we suggest that you make a start by purchasing our book so that you can learn the basics of the game. Therefore, the starting point for anybody is that he/her has already begun by reading our book. In fact, having read it is a prerequisite to using our school, because the advice we give you will make constant reference to the book. To play well is one thing, but winning is quite a different matter. The level of most Internet players is quite acceptable, but they lose money or fail to win what they ought to. This is due to a series of money escapes that we have been analysing over the years. What we are endeavouring to do is to plug those gaps. How the School Works The way the school operates is simple. When you have played a minimum of a certain number of hands, you can send them to us to manos@lospelayospoker.com and we will analyse them explaining to you the errors that we have detected so that you can correct them. Our system is going to enhance your hands in several ways and on different levels: Level 1: Correct statistical values. At the 1st Level we are going to analyse how many times you see the flop, how many times you raise before the flop, how many times you show your hand when you are aggressive and how many times you win when you show your hand. The correct values are explained in our book. If your values fall within the ones indicated in the book you are ready to go onto the next level, if not, we will get in touch with you and give you an explanation, so that when you play your next 500 hands you can correct your mistakes. Until your values are consistent with the ones shown in the book we will not analyse anything more for you. It is like going to the doctor’s surgery and being told that you cannot have an operation until you have lost 15 kilos and lowered your sugar and cholesterol levels. If you go back to the doctor a month later and you still weight the same and have the same sugar and cholesterol levels, he will merely repeat what he told you the month before. Level 2: Studying loser, blind and random hands. When you manage to reach the correct statistical values, which is by no means difficult, you will no longer be losing, unless you are unlucky, but you will not yet be winning all that you could. At this 2nd Level we are going to analyse how you play the 169 preflop hands, and we are going to give you the recommendations that you require. We are going to analyse how you play the blind hands, because these are the main source of money loss for the average player, and we are also going to analyse a very important factor, luck. It is often the case that even if you play perfectly, you lose money because of something as trivial as having bad luck. We find it very reassuring when someone tells you that what happened to you this week was just a question of bad luck, and that you made no mistakes worth mentioning. Level 3: Analysis of postflop and playing style. At this level we are going to analyse your game after the flop. Let’s see how you your opponents’ hands, what kind of difficulties you get into, whether or not you are overusing a particular strategy, etc. We are now on a highly sophisticated level, aimed at winners, and this is the level where they key to success lies. The difference between a good player and a systematic winner lies in giving this level an in-depth analysis. As this level involves an exhaustive analysis and a lot of time being devoted by one of the Los Pelayos poker team, a minimum of 2,000 hands played will be required. All the studies conducted at this level will be personally supervised by Gonzalo or Oscar García-Pelayo. This is also the level at which we might recommend you to a different site that is better adapted to your playing style. Level 4: Postgraduate course. If you reach this level we would like to meet you! If you have managed to follow all the guidelines set out at the 3 preceding levels you will now be winning systematically. But there are still a lot of subtleties and nuances that you will need to learn to make your game sounder. You are now about to join the Pelayo Poker team, and communicating via e-mail no longer makes sense. We now have to see hands personally from time to time, amongst other things because poker is a game that is subject to constant changes. What might be perfectly acceptable in January may no longer be valid in May. You will have to come to Madrid, but we can assure you that this trip will be extremely rewarding. We believe that one out of every hundred players that play with us will get this far. These are the 4 levels that can turn you into a professional player. But we are also aware of the fact that many of you already have jobs and that poker is just a hobby. That is the function at the first two levels. Learning how not to lose. But whether or not you want to go beyond this point is entirely up to you. Special studies. No limits. Tournaments and Omaha. Although our book mainly talks about Texas Holdem Limit full ring, we are also in a position to analyse No Limit hands as well as Omaha hands and tournaments. However, we would recommend that you start off by playing Texas Limit, because that is the most sophisticated game and the one where you learn the most. |
